The Senate Intelligence Committee recently indicated it would target Dr. Jill Stein for ‘collusion with Russia.’ CNN writes that Senate Intelligence Chairman Richard Burr says his committee is examining the campaign of Green Party 2016 presidential candidate Jill Stein as part of its investigation into Russian meddling in the US election.
After news emerged that the investigation had turned its attention to Stein, many journalists called the move emblematic of a new wave of McCarthyism.
Click on "Jill Stein" that's trending & you'll see countless leading Dems – with large platforms – strongly implying if not outright stating she's a Kremlin agent: all because of a Congressional inquiry. They couldn't better replicate McCarthyism if they tried. https://t.co/HOWU16bS6O

The latest news regarding the Senate Intelligence Committee’s new focus on Stein has fueled criticism of the investigation’s real motivations and even the definition of “Russian collusion.” Some point out that the investigation’s description of Russian collusion has become diluted beyond recognition. That such serious allegations would lose all dense of definition and are currently decided on the whim of an inquisitorial group of establishment despots is a point of concern for many.
If Jill Stein is now also being investigated for purported "collusion," consider how expansive (and incoherent) the notion of "collusion" has now become https://t.co/Vm26glrD5i

As Journalist Michael Tracy points out, this latest attack against Jill Stein demonstrates that the investigation into supposed Russian collusion has raised concerns that it is an outright witch-hunt against anyone who threatens the establishment, whether they are a comedian, human rights activist, or the leader of a third party. What Randy Credico and Stein have in common is not a connection with Russia, but the problem they represent in the eyes of establishment interests, particularly Hillary Clinton.
While Credico has been a staunch supporter of Julian Assange and Wikileaks, Jill Stein ran against Clinton and, despite winning a tiny fraction of the popular vote, was blamed by some establishment pundits for Clinton’s loss in last year’s Presidential race. If this pattern of the Committee’s retaliation against anti-establishment figures holds true, one might expect to see Sen. Bernie Sanders as the most likely figure to be accused of Russian collusion in the near future.
Clinton Democrats are waging a campaign of xenophobia and defamation to eliminate America's left opposition. In this case, against Green party leader, Jill Stein. https://t.co/6ktXXpEBjB pic.twitter.com/T3uJzrWyzH

Independent journalist Caitlin Johnstone has long warned of the dangers stemming from the establishment’s McCarthyist bent, especially regarding the possibly disastrous consequences that increased tensions with a nuclear-armed power could cause.
Johnstone writes of the latest news regarding Jill Stein: “This is what Russiagate has come to. This psychotic conspiracy theory is now so desperate to turn this endless fountain of nothing into something that it is rifling through the documents of a campaign which received one percent of the popular vote because its candidate had dinner in Russia two years ago.”
Even more absurd, the well documented ‘collusion’ with Russia in relation to the Uranium One scandal is still largely ignored by establishment Democrats and much of the legacy press, despite the fact that the New York Times reported on the issue. In their 2015 article titled “Cash Flowed to Clinton Foundation Amid Russian Uranium Deal,” the New York Times wrote that “Amid this influx of Uranium One-connected money, Mr. Clinton was invited to speak in Moscow in June 2010, the same month Rosatom struck its deal for a majority stake in Uranium One.”
The fact that the Clintons and Uranium One is not under prominent examination in relation to Russian collusion belies the entire basis of the Senate Intelligence Committee’s investigation. Silence of Uranium One suggests that the Committee’s actual aim may be one based primarily on retaliation.
Instead of investigating those who may have actually betrayed American interests to Russian state actors, the Intelligence Committee appears to be unabashedly attacking anyone who has proven inconvenient for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Given the lack of evidence of wrongdoing on the part of figures who have been embroiled in the plainly absurd investigation into still-unproven Russian meddling, including Randy Credico and now Jill Stein, it is utterly hypocritical that establishment media excuses the Clinton Foundation’s potential wrongdoing regarding Uranium and a nuclear-armed historical enemy state.
Ultimately, the witch-hunt against Wikileaks supporters and anti-establishment voices like Dr. Jill Stein demonstrate that the real intent motivating the Trump-Russia investigation has nothing to do with Russia or improper collusion with a foreign state. The motivation of the Senate Intelligence Committee’s investigation appears with each passing week to be entirely domestic and aimed primarily at stamping out dissent with an iron fist.
